An event is a period of time where special rules are applied to Star Trek Timelines. Short time events will be launched in Star Trek Timelines that give bonus rewards to players such as crew or items. To access these events, an icon will appear on the main screen with information about the event, prize list, and any special packs are offered.
Types of Events
So far three different types of events have been released in Star Trek Timelines. In each event players earn Victory Points which are added to a player's score. The higher a players score the more event rewards they earn. The "protagonists" of the event receive bonusses when participating. Note that the bonus affects all versions of the person: for instance, all versions of Tom Paris (Nurse Paris and Captain Proton Paris) received a bonus in the first event, They Came from the Holodeck - however Nurse Paris received a bonus of 2x while Captain Proton's bonus was 3x.
Players participate by doing the new Shuttle Missions for the faction. These missions now grant both normal rewards, and Victory Points .
At the beginning of the event the difficulty level of shuttle missions is reset to the beginning (for instance the first mission only takes 1 minute and is very simple). The difficulty level will be restored to its pre-event value when the event finishes.
The amount of Victory Points each missions awards increases with its difficulty (from a couple to more than 1000), making it easy for a player with high-ranking crew to amass considerable amounts of points once they're doing difficult missions.
The "protagonists" of the event receive a substantial bonus to their skill when participating on a Shuttle Mission. The event-specific version of the crew gets a 3x multiplicator on their skill (including Shuttle Boosts) and the non-event version of the crew gets 2x.
Each Faction Event consists of 20 Shuttle Missions. Multiple missions can be open at the same time, but never more than one of each. (Trying to open more than 20 missions results in the error "Unable to redeem token.".)
During Galaxy Events, players complete Supply Missions, where the playes can earn Victory Points by building special event items. Galaxy Events work in two phases - in the first, the factions will all work together, and in the second, different factions are able to win - and the players' choices influences which faction wins.
Expedition Events are based on away-team mission mechanics. Expeditions consist of several missions, playing through all of which constitutes a single "attempt." An attempt can be started by spending one event ticket. This grants one hour of play to complete all expedition missions. Each player is granted a set number of tickets each day with the ability to purchase more on a sliding scale of premium currency.
Expeditions are longer than traditional away-team missions. Unlike standard away-team missions each time a crew member completes a node they are they gain an exhaustion debuff, decreasing their stats. If a crew member fails when attempting a node, they will gain additional exhaustion debuffs. Exhaustion debuffs stack and do not reset until an attempt. Expedition missions can be run multiple times in the one hour window, but crew will become fatigued to the point they can no longer complete mission nodes. At this point the attempt can be ended and a new attempt started with another ticket.
One strategy recommended by Disruptor Beam is to hold stronger crew in reserve for the Elite and Epic missions. The harder the mission, the more victory points earned, critical successes also reward more victory points .
The "protagonists" of the event receive fewer exhaustion tokens when completing mission nodes.
Captains who complete all the normal missions during a one hour ticket window are given the opportunity to vote on which crew member will be the next one added to STAR TREK TIMELINES. The vote is weighted by how many Stars earned in missions, so running epic and elite increases voting power.
It is possible that during the event a special Premium Pack will be offered for dilithium. While this portal works with the same rules as always, it guarantees at least one ultra-rare or legendary "protagonist".
There are four sets of rewards: Threshold, Community, Squadron, and Ranked.
Rewards can be very varied. In general, characters, credits, equipment, trainings, and free pulls from the Time Portal can be expected.
- Threshold Rewards are unlocked by gaining a certain number of Victory Points , and players can redeem them immediately. While the first rewards are very basic, the right amount of Victory Points can earn a player epic characters.
- Community Rewards are only present in Galaxy Events. They are unlocked after the community reaches a certain milestone in the event. The milestone can be reached by gathering a specific amount of VP (Victory Points). Often there are multiple Community Rewards which are unlock able at different amounts of Community VP.
- Squadron Rewards are awarded to those who are in Squadrons and their total squadron's rank is high enough. A squadrons rank is based on the total victory points obtained by all its members.
- Ranked Rewards are awarded according to the ranking of all players who participated in the event. The player with most Victory points is awarded the most generous prize, but every player receives something. These rewards are awarded once the event is over.
Note: Starting on December 8th, all future events (non-repeat), ranked rewards are now cumulative. This means that the player who ranks #1 gets the same rewards as they would have gotten previously in addition to four of the 4 star crew and three of the 3 star crew. This eliminates the strategy of players holding back in an event to get the 4 star crew as all ranks above the one that would have gotten four of the 4 star crew will now also get it.
Here is a list of all the events that have taken place in order of release. As of January 16, 2017, there have been 31 events.
- The events are influenced by the Tales of Ice and Fire in Game of Thrones: Ascent.
- The first event was introduced on the March 31st, 2016.
